2013 Travel Plans

by Regin Reyno

2012 has been a very busy year for me in terms of travels. As what I've said in my previous post, it is a year of travels. I rode airplanes, buses, boats, pedicabs, tricycles, tuktuks, motosais, habal-habals, songtaews, vans, taxis, remorque-motos, horse cart, kalesa, trains, jeepneys, subways, and sky trains.

Every month in 2012-from January to December-I had at least one travel, except for November where I skipped the all expenses-paid trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia for the BlogFest Asia 2012. I was one of the chosen Asian bloggers to be part of that 5-day event in Siem Reap, and the sponsors will bear all the expenses including per diems. But I declined because I have classes during that time. That was the only month in 2012 where I didn't travel.

So looking back in 2012 where almost every month I traveled, what could be in store for me in 2013? What are my travel plans in 2013?

Ever since I've  found the joy, education, fulfillment, and benefits of travel, I couldn't stop from traveling. Airports, hotels, guesthouses, beach, mountains, cities, cafes, restaurants, tribes, languages, heritage sites, wonders of the world, adventures, relaxation, etc. Oh how I love all of these. There was even one time when I dreamed of being a full time traveler.

But despite of that, I decided to slow down a little bit in 2013-to have fewer travels and to take it slowly. The reason? I have a pet at home. A teacup Shih Tzu named Kimi, which is so adorable and lovely that I can't just leave at home. Although I can travel with him sometimes-but most of the time it's not sensible to bring him to my travels.

So in 2013, I only planned 3 international travels. These are my 2013 travel plans.

1. January-Sukothai, Thailand

A UNESCO World  Heritage site located 8 hours north of Bangkok, this old kingdom is my interest ever since I've had a passion for heritage sites. The kingdom existed in 1238 until 1438. As of the moment it is now a tourist destination and one of the favorite sites in Thailand among historians.

2. February-Ayutthaya, Thailand

Another UNESCO World Heritage site; this old city is high on my list of places to visit in Thailand. It's near Bangkok so it shouldn't be hard.

3. March-Sepang, Malaysia

I plan to go to Malaysia to watch a Formula 1 Grand Prix race. As an F1 fan, this will be a dream come true.

5. October-Himalayas, Nepal

I really want to do a lodge trek in the Himalayas. I've seen photos of Nikki Scott of Southeast Asia Backpacker magazine hiking in Nepal, and oh, the photos were so beautiful. I want to experience the altitude and see the beauty of the place.

6. December-Banaue and Sagada, Philippines

Philippines
dubbed by Filipinos as the 8th Wonder of the World

After the successful 1st Klement Backpacking and Ministry in Thailand and Cambodia, we planned a part II. This time we'll be trekking the mountains of Ifugao and Mt. Province. And we will also be ministering to the people there. KBM II, here we come!

Even though these are just plans, I'm hoping and praying that these will materialized, through God's help.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Which of my travel plans in 2013 do you like the most? What are your plans in 2013? Cheers to more travels!

  2. Wow, you've plotted your travels na talaga ha? I've been to Sukhothai last year to observe the Loy Krathong festival. Lovely town, very historical. Btw, about pets, it's why I love cats; they can be left behind. When I travel, I just let them out of the house and ask neighbors to feed them in my yard. When I come back, they'll still be there. When I'm gone too long though, I miss them a lot!

  3. I really love to go to Sukothai too. Will try to fit it in 2013. I cancelled my Sukothai trip in January due to some reasons.

I love cats too by the way.
