Ploykhumthong Boutique Resort: A Pet-Friendly Hotel in Bangkok

by Regin Reyno

Before heading to Suvarnabhumi Airport for our trip to the Philippines, I decided to stay in Bangkok first to avoid being too much stressed in traveling. I am traveling with my dog, a Teacup Shih Tzu. And living in Muang, Ratchaburi province, 2-3 hours from downtown Bangkok, it’s nice to stay first in a hotel near the airport. Traveling is stressful to a dog, and it’s nice to have a break first before that flight to the Philippines.

I chose Ploykhumthong Boutique Resort, a pet-friendly hotel located 10 min. from Suvarnabhumi Airport. It was recommended to me by a fellow Filipino expat who also went to the Philippines with her Japanese Spitz and also stayed in this hotel.
Thai-style houses/rooms
Upon arriving, I was greeted by friendly English speaking staff. Their staffs are so helpful. It is a Thai-style hotel located in a very quiet place. It is at the end of soi 40/2 along Lat Krabang road. So you’re far away from the noise of vehicles passing by. It is full of vegetations too. As I walked going to my room, I passed by bushes, shrubs, plants of different kinds. Then there’s the pool located at the center of the resort. It’s very relaxing. It’s surrounded by Thai classical style house/rooms, plants, and it is very quite. It is far from the busyness of the highway.

It also has nice restaurants-an air-conditioned one and a non-air-conditioned. Since it is in Lat Krabang, already in the outskirts of Bangkok, it has nice, windy and not-so-sticky air compared to downtown Bangkok.
The front part of the hotel where they receive guests. The restaurant at the right hand side.
I entered my room. It is located in the 2nd floor, overlooking the resort. I chose their cheapest room which is 900 baht/night plus a 500 baht/night fee for my dog. It is a pretty basic room. It is small but it’s OK. It has a flat screen TV, mini bar, hairdryer, hot/cold rain shower, and the bed is soft, the pillows wonderful. What I don’t like is the cable installed is the cheap cable where you only have mostly Thai channels, or English Channels dubbed in Thai. They don’t have Start Sports, ESPN and the likes.
my room
After doing some shopping and groomed my shih tzu in a nearby outdoor mall called Paseo, I went back to the resort and had a wonderful relaxation. We took a nap and relaxed in the pool. I read books, swam a little, and befriended fellow travelers from Sweden who were sunbathing.
so relaxing
In the afternoon we just sat in from of our room, in the terrace to view the sunset and the planes that passed by. From there you can even see the office of Bangkok Airways, a sign that you are really near Suvarnabhumi airport.
the toilet is very basic
In the evening I skipped eating in their nice restaurant because the foods are overpriced. So instead I just walked up the street where there are eateries and convenience stores. Since the hotel is located far from the highway, about 200 meters, and there are no stores surrounding it, they have the guts to increase the price of the food in their restaurant. It is so inconvenient to go out and walk a distance just to eat especially at noontime where the sun is so harsh.
in front of my room
They don’t also offer complimentary breakfast. So I just bought lots of food from outside and drank the complimentary tea. That served as my breakfast. I relaxed in the pool for many hours, did some laps, read books, and simply lay there doing nothing. It is a very relaxing place.
relax and unwind
When it’s time for me to leave for the airport, I just asked them to call a metered taxi. I didn’t use their airport transfer service because it is expensive. It’s 200 baht one way to the airport.  Taxi meter to the airport cost only 50-70 baht.

They also have a massage parlor or you can request a massage in your room. I didn't even bother to look at the prices.

I recommend this resort if you have a dog, or if you want a relaxing hotel near the airport.
I'm sure my tea cup shi tzu, Kimi, enjoyed his relaxation too

  1. It is really so hard to find a best pet friendly spot to stay at any tourist place. According to you article it sounds like Ploykhumthong is a best to live while traveling with pet.
One of my travel loving friends is planning a trip to some major tourist cities in Thailand with his puppy. I will him suggest this to stay in Bangkok.
